Sports Leadership Day
Chloe Anjoul of Year 9 reports on the Sports Leadership Day held recently at Galston High School:

Recently a group of students from the Year 9 and 10 PASS classes, coached primary school students in a range of different sports. Hillside, Kenthurst, Glenorie, Galston and Dural primary schools all participated in this program, playing soccer, AFL, basketball, and initiative games throughout the day. It was a great experience for all of the high school leaders as well as the students from the primary schools. We learnt great leadership skills and how to coach appropriately, for the style of the student. The younger students were split into 4 groups, with each group rotating around all four sports throughout the day. Overall it was a very worthwhile experience and a lot of fun for everyone.

The café is off to a great start this year operating Tuesday and Wednesday each week. There are several dedicated teams of students who, under the guidance of Mrs Fraietta, are rapidly building their skills in Barista and Hospitality services. Not only are they catering for the senior students and school staff but have also been handling large and smaller functions for groups within the school and the broader community. Recently they hosted the International Women’s Day luncheon and on other occasions community groups have booked luncheons or stopped in for a coffee and signature chocolate brownie. It is wonderful to watch the students grow in confidence as they are given opportunities to shine in this learning setting. Preparations are being made to have the students complete their Barista Certificates in term 2. All community members are invited to the Waddell Café which is open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.00am until 2.00pm.
