Local volunteers recognised at regional awards

The work of volunteers in New South Wales has been calculated to be worth in excess of $5bn per year to the state economy. On September 4th at Castle Hill RSL, the Centre for Volunteering recognised the work of volunteers in the Hornsby and North Western Sydney region with the 2019 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards. Two of the nominees were Mary and Lucy Falvey who have been active in the Galston/Dural area for a number of years.

Mary and Lucy are Girl Guide leaders for the Galston district. They are also part of the Cumberland Scouts and Guide Gang Show that performs in the June holidays in the Riverside Theatre Parramatta. Lucy is also a Rover Scout leader with 1st Dural Scouts, a member of Roteract and also volunteers at a local clinic. Galston Guides is proudly supported by Bendigo Bank (Galston and Community Bank) with the bank sponsoring community carol singing, membership for deserving families, and helping the unit with making essential repairs to the guide hall.

Business supporting volunteering for the local community is something our community can be very proud of in the area. Congratulations to Mary, Lucy and all of the volunteers recognised at today’s award ceremony also to the local businesses like Galston and Community Bank that support them.

Galston Guides meet on Tuesdays, Junior Guides on Thursdays at 414 Galston Rd.
