If a stool has three legs and one is missing then balancing proves nigh on impossible.
So too, the trinity has three parts, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Yet, the Holy Spirit all too often is neglected or completely removed.
Acts 1:8: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
The challenge this month, as we wrap up the fifth part of this series, is whether the Holy Spirit is active today.
Sure, for those who’ve read the bible and the book of Acts, the Apostles did some amazing stuff – but they had the Holy Spirit back then.
What about now? Do we have access to the Holy Spirit?
In John 15:14-17 it captures Jesus’ promise, that “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever”.
Not just for a few days after Jesus rose, not a few years while the early church got sorted out, nor even a few centuries until Christianity became popular within the Roman empire. No, the Holy Spirit was promised to be with us forever.
Pretty sure forever includes now.
So, if the Holy Spirit is alive and well then why is He so ignored in our churches? Our teaching? Our lives? And, if the Holy Spirit is alive today, can He also work through me?
John 15:17 concludes “You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
If you believe in God the creator, believe that Jesus lived, died and rose again, then the same power that worked through creation, the miracles, the resurrection, is available to each of us today. That’s the promise!
So why are we living unpowered lives? Why do we accept enslavement to the limitations of this world? We have access to an authority that reigns over and above sickness, over and above relationship issues, financial issues, employment issues … are we living in the Spirit? Or resigned to the limitations of the flesh?
Are we just acknowledging the teachings of the bible? Or are we experiencing them? We can be empowered, we can be filled with the Spirit and we can make an enormous difference.
Seek a relationship with the Holy Spirit, “ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7.
