All too often I have met Christians who can quote chapter and verse of their favourite scriptures, or those that have a deep theological knowledge and can debate the ins and outs of eschatology (study of end times).

Yet less often have I met Christians who live the word, rather than just study it.

What do I mean by this?

Our intellectual knowledge of the bible is only complete when it is applied to our lives. We can know all the theory but unless it is put into practice then it remains … a theory.

I would like to offer a challenge to our readers, one that I have been working through myself, which is whether the bible is great for theory or intellectual knowledge or is it experienced and a revelatory knowledge.

There is a chasm of understanding between scriptures revealed and scriptures read and studied.

Recently I have attempted to break this down and would like to explore this over the coming months. With this being the first instalment, God Created.

In Genesis 1:1 it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.”

From the opening lines of this collection of 66 books known as the bible we are offered a challenge, do we believe God created?

Maybe it is easy to read and accept in theory, but has it been revealed?

For this statement alone uncovers one of the first steps of faith, do we believe in a higher power?

The majority of the world sits in this stage, most believe in a higher power – at least in theory. But as Christians, do we believe beyond theory, and apply in our daily walk?

For if we do believe, and it is our living experience, then the revelation is there is something much greater. There is a reason I yearn more, hope to discover more, to understand more of why. There is a way to answer these infuriating questions of why am I here? What is my purpose?

Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

We all have this urge to seek more, to understand more. When you experience the creator, as opposed to theorise, then you understand that He created you for a purpose, He created you for a plan and if only you would seek Him then that will start to be revealed.

God seeks a relationship with you and is there, arms stretched out wide, welcoming you in. He wants to reveal His plans and purpose for you and to embrace you in His love.

In fact He is so intent on doing so, as we will discover next month, He sent His son to show the way.
