The students and staff are looking forward to fully utilising the repurposed classroom, when school resumes for Term 2. The room will be utilised as a dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) space. The staff spent many hours, during the recent school holidays, refitting and organising the space, so that all students will be further challenged in their learning experiences.
Term one finished with our relay team representing Hillside at the NSW Swimming Carnival at Homebush. A wonderful achievement for our students Izak, Madison, Samuel and Thomas. All students have been training hard for the School Cross Country, which is being held early in the term. Hillside students combine with their peers from Annangrove and Middle Dural Public Schools for the Small Schools Cross Country. It enables our students to build strong friendships with the other students and the opportunity to participate in a more competitive environment.
Our year 6 students develop strong leadership skills with all the opportunities offered to them throughout the year. From leading assemblies and sport, organising charity days, assisting as library monitors and being the face of Hillside to outside organisations and visitors. It is always wonderful seeing how well Hillside students do when they move onto high school.
This term the school has received a Sporting Schools grant to enable outside specialists to work with all our students, teaching them the necessary skills in a number of sports. We also welcome the Year 9 students from Galston High School who will be working with our students developing skills in basketball, soccer and touch football. Our students always enjoy the experience working with the high school students. Other highlights this term include the Stage 3 excursion to Canberra and the whole school excursion to the Sydney Aquarium. Our students are exposed to so many learning opportunities.
Every day is open day at Hillside, so please contact the office to organise a tour of our unique school where every child is valued. Phone 9652 1459
