The Hills Women’s Shed was launched on 22nd February and is a great product of collaboration between several Hills organisations.
There was a waiting list of people wanting to join the 120 guests at the launch at Castle Hill RSL on Thursday.
The Hills Women’s Shed was the dream of Dr Padmini Howpage, founder of the Positive Vibes Foundation which has joined with the Community Migrant Resource Centre (CMRC) to provide a space for women to meet, connect and learn new skills.
The Women’s Shed and the CMRC Hills office will operate from At The Corner, 16 Arthur St, Baulkham Hills.
There are already a series of courses planned including a 10-week TAFE accredited course in personal development for community work course which starts on March 6.
Other workshops include Women With Wheels, a practical car maintenance workshop starting on March 8, Succulent Gardens workshop on March 29 and a social media workshop also on March 29.
The concept was given a huge pat on the back by Federal MP for Mitchell Alex Hawke who said, “The work you do here is vital.”
Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne thanked the CMRC and Positive Vibes for “their vision”.
“There is a need for this Women’s Shed in the Hills, there are women here who are socially isolated.”
