The official 2018 netball season finished in September and kicks off again in May 2019. However – Galston Netball Club was aware that there were several NetSetGo players (aged 5-9 years old) and junior players that just wanted to keep practicing their netball! The Club therefore developed a 7-week netball skills program for current and new players keen to learn and build on their netball skills. The program was advertised locally, and the strong demand was obvious with the first 7-week program receiving 28 registrations in just 3 days!
The program is now in its third week and from the huge smiles on the faces of the participants it’s clear that the girls are really enjoying themselves. Each week the program focuses on different games and activities suitable for all ages and abilities to teach players the basic skills of the sport. There’s music, there’s games, there’s laughter and there’s lots of fun!
And, with the positive feedback from the younger age group, the Club also decided to run a skills program for older players (aged 10-11) which has also proven popular with nearly 20 participants!
Theresa Welschinger, President of Galston Netball Club commented, ‘There’s a clear demand locally from young girls for these netball skills programs outside of the netball season and for new players to try netball before committing to a full season. The Club and our volunteer coaches are more than happy to support these initiatives and build on the player’s enthusiasm and love of netball. We will continue to run these programs in 2019 and obviously hope to encourage more girls to join our Club in 2019 and participate in what is a fabulous team sport’.
Galston Netball Club fields teams aged 6 years to adult in the Hills District Netball Association winter competition. Registrations for next winter season will open in early 2019.
