Galston Iga Celebrates Local Icon

Recently, the Chriss family at Galston IGA celebrated their wonderful store manager Dave for 20 years of his service.

“We are so grateful and blessed that our paths crossed 20 wonderful years ago. Thank you, Dave for all that you do for your community and for IGA Galston. You truly are one in a million and everything you do for your customers, our family and the community doesn’t go unnoticed. We feel beyond grateful for you Dave” – IGA Galston. Dave shares with the Galston, Glenorie & Hills Rural Community News his story of 20 plus years at IGA Galston.

My name is David (Masud Alikozay). I’m originally from Afghanistan, and moved to Australia in 1999.

I started working in this lovely Galston community in the very early 2000s as a young single 20-year-old boy.

From that, I became a married man, to the gorgeous Deewa, who has always encouraged and helped me and our three beautiful children, two of which are now working in the shop with me.

When I started working at IGA Galston, it was owned by a different proprietor. Two years into my employment, the Chriss Family bought the shop.

Over last 20 years, I feel like I have become like family, sharing everything with each other in this lovely community. The love and support of the owner has given me the drive to stay on for 20 years.

During these years I have been offered alternate positions by employers, but nothing is more important to me than our local community.

It is more rewarding to work with the people you have grown to know and trust, have an excellent understanding and are very friendly.

In the last 20 years, IGA Galston has faced many hardships with big chain competition however, we have been able succeed through these times, which would not have been possible without the help of God and our community support.

Today I am here to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to every person in the community who has given me love and support. I will pray to God to provide me with the strength to continue to work and serve this community for the next 20 years and beyond. Lots of love, David.
