Galston Equestrian Club: Off To A Flying Start

A busy year has begun for GEC members with our action-packed calendar. During the first 6 weeks of operation this year we’ve run the following amazing events:

Our Members Only General Riding Day on 10 February was very well attended, with the added bonus of an equine Bowen therapy demonstration from Michelle Lawrence, Bowen therapist. Riders enjoyed using the dressage arena, jumping equipment and obstacles, as well as getting their horses out in company.

Two Mid-week Show Jumping Training Clinics, run by Sandy Lucas on 5 February and 5 March, were a great success. Sandy’s jumping exercises worked at all heights and helped horses and riders tackle tricky turns and changes between verticals and spreads whilst maintaining an even rhythm. Sandy’s mid week clinics cater for all levels of horse and rider combinations and will continue on the first Tuesday of the month throughout the year.

Two mid-week Positive Partnership Training Mornings were run on Tuesday 12 February and 12 March. Positive Partnerships is a new members only initiative for GEC. It is run by Committee member, Pam Pike, and focuses on developing and improving communication with your horse through positive rein-forcement. This fun and friendly group will meet monthly.

Our Poles and Grids Training Day was held on 24 February with popular local instructor, Tana Subotic. All classes filled quickly and participants enjoyed the day thoroughly.

A Working Equitation Clinic was held on 9 March with coach, judge and international competitor, Kim Peterson sharing her wealth of knowledge and bringing out the best in every horse and rider partnership.

A Clear Rounds Show Jumping Competition was held on Sunday 10 March. Two rings catered for all heights from X-rails to 110cm. The event was very well attended by members of both GEC and Arcadia Pony Club, as well as non-members visiting our fabulous grounds for the first time. Future show jumping competitions will be run along the same lines with two rings catering for different heights and specific times allocated to the different classes.

We are a friendly and welcoming club which caters for riders of all abilities. There really is something for every rider in our calendar. For our Dressage riders, have one of our Official Competitions coming up on 28th April.

Please visit our website at www.galstonequestrianclub.com.au or our Facebook page to view our calendar and see what’s on next. Memberships are open throughout the year. We hope to see you soon.
