Excitement is Building at Hillside!

As our pantomime night is quickly approaching, there is a buzz of excitement as the students polish their words, songs, and dances.

All students from (Hillside) Kindergarten to Year 6 will perform for family and friends on Thursday 8th September with their entertaining performance of ‘The Lemonade Kid’.

This is a rootin’-tootin’ Wild West musical, with lots of song and dance, telling of a town being tamed against all odds by a plucky lady and the Lemonade Kid. We invite the wider community to join us on the night.

Earlier this term our students participated in the Small Schools Athletics Carnival with Arcadia, Annangrove, and Middle Dural Schools. The day started with the traditional marching competition. which the awesome students from Hillside won. A great start to a wonderful day where many of our students placed in their individual races. Ten of our students qualified to represent Hillside at the Beecroft Zone Athletics Carnival at Homebush at the end of the month.

Our students are challenged to achieve goals in all areas of their learning. This term all students have successfully completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge and are currently halfway through the Premier’s Sporting Challenge.

The stage 3 students have enthusiastically participated in the Wet & Wild research challenge, which integrates technology, research, and language skills in the areas of Geography and Science. Students from around the state compete and are challenged to find the names of 16 organisms using mixed up sets of clues over four weeks. They may be plants, birds, animals, or insects. It has been a great learning curve for the students with a noticeable improvement in their research skills.

We are looking forward to celebrating Father’s Day with our dads, granddads, and other family members at our Father’s Day breakfast once again. It is always a great morning where the students and their guests can enjoy a BBQ breakfast before heading off to work. It is one of the schools ways to thank the families for their support during the year.

This year the school reviewed our award scheme, and the process introduced three new assembly awards in line with our values of Respectful, Responsible Learners. It is wonderful to acknowledge the commitment and achievements of all our students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Congratulations to Anthony, Christiana, and Kina, our most recent recipients of these awards.

All Kindergarten 2023 students who have completed the relevant paperwork will be participating in our Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday 12th and 19th October. We look forward to welcoming the children and their families to Hillside.
