DURAL COUNTRY CLUB BOWLERS

Both the men’s and women’s clubs are running down towards the end of the calendar year. Both clubs are enjoying an influx of new members which makes for some interesting games.

On the competition front the final ladies event, the Ladies’ Drawn Fours will be played while the Men’s Drawn Triples and Drawn Pairs were decided recently. With the help of Stuart Yeend, Larry Gillespie and Kevin Keene, Richard Thorpe added the triples to his Major Singles won earlier. The Runners-Up were Doug Farlow, David Pan and Gordon Scoble. As with the ladies these teams are drawn randomly and it gives all members a chance to play with the “champs”. The Pairs were won by Richard Thorp and Gordon Scoble with Paul Race and David Pan runnersup.

The finalists for the ladies’ Drawn Fours are Mairead Henson, Marilyn Bonvino, Barbara Wood and Margaret Yeend who will try to defeat Ann Wilson, Kay Turrell, Terri Hezlett and Chris Fitzgerald.

The hard-working selectors are now faced with the unenviable task of selecting teams for the 2019 Pennant competition to give the teams time to consolidate and practise. Melbourne Cup day saw an almost full green of social bowlers who followed up with lunch and a few flutters.

The ladies are looking forward to a Christmas breakup party when it is hope some retired members may be able to join in the festivities and share a Christmas lunch. The years “trophies” will also be presented.
