The Bromeliad Society of Australia will hold their next meeting at the Federation Pavilion, Castle Hill Showground on Saturday, 9 June with plant sales commencing at 11am prior to the meeting.
Access is via the new Showground entrance off Showground Road into Doran Drive, Castle Hill with plenty of parking on site.
Guest speaker, Judy Horton OAM is a horticulturist and garden adviser who spent 22 years with Yates. Since her retirement she has taken on a role as a botanical guide for travel company Botanica World Discoveries, a freelance contributor to Gardening Australia magazine and editor of Our Gardens, the Clubs of Australia quarterly magazine. For more than 20 years Judy has also been a regular on ABC radio gardening programs.
One of Judy’s responsibilities at Yates was to look after the company archives. They provided a wonderful overview of gardening in Australia, particularly during the 20th century. Judy’s talk draws on these archives and other resources to outline the trends, world events and social changes that have affected our gardens in that time, with particular emphasis on the ubiquitous quarter-acre Aussie backyard.
This will be a fun talk that will have everyone recognising something they remember from past gardens. Visitors are most welcome to attend this meeting to hear Judy Horton’s interesting talk.
BSA meetings include interesting guest speakers, plant sales, club news, raffles and competitions as well as providing an opportunity to meet with like-minded people in a friendly and inviting environment. Contact Ian Hook Mobile 0408 202 269, Email: [email protected]. Website: www.bromeliad.org.au
