BMX Open Attracts Hundreds From Across Australia To Fred Caterson Reserve

Hundreds of BMX riders from across the country descended on Fred Caterson Reserve over the weekend for the 2016 Castle Hill BMX Open.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said she was delighted to attend the event. Council recently spent more than $300,000 building an amenities block at the BMX Club complete with toilets and a canteen.

“It’s great to see this much-loved facility being so well used and attracting so many people to our Shire,” Mayor Byrne said.

“BMX riding is one of the non-traditional sports that has become extremely popular in our Shire and it’s due to this wonderful facility.”

“Riders aged between 3 and 63 took part in the event which also provides a real boost to our visitor economy.”

The Castle Hill BMX Club was well represented on the day with 74 participants. 41 of those riders made the finals.

Mayor Byrne attended the trial run on Saturday with the event concluding on Sunday.

Participants came from as far away as the Northern Territory for the event, which is one of six in the lead up to the NSW Championships.
