Is Your Property Prepared?

Meet Arcadia RFS This Get Ready Weekend

Arcadia Rural Fire Brigade is urging local residents to start their bushfire preparations early ahead of the upcoming fire season. As part of the annual NSW RFS Get Ready Weekend on 19th–20th September 2026, the brigade will be stepping out of the station and hitting the streets to host two local street meetings.

Living in the picturesque, heavily forested Hornsby District means bushfire safety must always be a top priority. High fuel loads across the region mean that it only takes a few consecutive days of hot, dry, and windy weather for dangerous fire conditions to return.

To help our community prepare, Arcadia volunteers will be on hand at two separate locations over the weekend to share expert advice, answer your property-specific questions, and help you create or update your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Street Meeting Details
• Meeting 1 Saturday 19th September: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the corner of Cobar Road and Bloodwood Road.
• Meeting 2 Saturday 19th September: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the corner of Bay Road and Calabash Road.

Whether you are a long-term resident with livestock, a hobby farmer, or completely new to the rural area, these meetings are the perfect informal setting to chat with your local firefighters. You can learn how to establish a defensible space around your home, understand modern Fire Danger Ratings, and find out what to do if a fire threatens our area.

You can even bring your portable fire pump to let us help show you how to use it properly.

In addition to this, if you have ever considered volunteering, you can also come and chat with us about joining the NSW Rural Fire Service and becoming part of your local Brigade.

Preparation makes all the difference when it counts. Grab a neighbour, bring your questions, and come down to say hello to the crew.
