ARCADIA PUBLIC SCHOOL – KEEPING OUR KIDS LEARNING AND ON THE GO

Arcadia Public School was fortunate to have squeezed in a successful fundraiser before the COVID-19 restrictions came into effect. Our Comedy for a Cause fundraiser at the Glenorie RSL earlier this year was a real hoot and raised over $1,100! A great effort by our P&C! Arcadia P&C is hugely thankful to Glenorie RSL for their generosity with regards to the event.

Meanwhile, the students, teachers and parents at Arcadia have adapted to remote learning at lightning speed, with the setup of virtual classrooms using Google Classroom, the use of daily class meetings via Zoom, and the discovery of PE with Joe on YouTube! While the initial transition was rather sudden, with minimal preparation time, everyone in the Arcadian community worked hard and collaborated as usual and got on with the job.

The kids also discovered an array of fabulous free online educational live streaming experiences such as those provided by The Australian Reptile Park and local Aboriginal artist Buddy from Buddy Loves Art.

The NSW Department of Education have also been providing interesting Live Education sessions. We have used our Facebook page to share sessions, such as the ‘Olympic-sized Workout’ with Bronte Campbell, ‘Art is About Responding to the World’ with Ben Quilty and ‘Cooking Class at Home’ with Matt, Manu and Gary.

Arcadia Public School acknowledges the great efforts made by our parents during these challenging times. Many families are struggling with job loss, financial stress, placing mortgages on hold, continuing essential worker roles, and juggling the demands of working from home while guiding our students through remote learning across multiple grades. Many of our parents are essential service workers including specialist nurses, grocery store managers, and teachers, while many of our parents have been tackling the tough role of both working from home and guiding remote learning. Equally we are hearing that parents are expressing an extended appreciation for our teachers as we all look forward to a return to regular school life in the not too distant future.
