Residents in Box Hill are edging closer to a new neighbourhood playground, after The Hills Shire Council secured land for the future Stockhorse Avenue Reserve and opened public consultation on its design.
The site has been acquired through a compulsory purchase, clearing the way for a park intended to serve the area’s rapidly growing population. Council is now seeking community feedback on plans that include a playground with a tower structure and climbing net, two 3v3 basketball courts, a picnic shelter with seating, a turf kick-about space, pedestrian pathways and landscaped surrounds.
Mayor Michelle Byrne said the acquisition was a key step in addressing demand for local recreational facilities as Box Hill continues to expand. She acknowledged the challenges involved in securing land in the suburb but said the new reserve would provide an important gathering place for families and residents.
Community members are being encouraged to comment on the proposed layout before designs are finalised. Submissions received during the consultation period will be reviewed, and changes will be made where appropriate.
Feedback closes at 5 pm on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. More information is available on the Hills Shire Council website by searching for “Stockhorse Avenue Reserve”.
