Glenorie Public School’s Firecracker Night Lights Up The Community

Glenorie Public School’s much-loved ‘Old Skool’ Firecracker Night lit up the neighbourhood on Friday, 26 September, drawing hundreds of families for an evening packed with colour, community spirit and old-fashioned fun. What began as a school fundraiser quickly became a standout local event, thanks to the tireless effort of the school’s Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) and the generosity of local sponsors.

From the moment the gates opened, the atmosphere buzzed with the unmistakable energy of a classic Aussie community celebration. The Glenorie P&C fired up the barbie, dishing out sausages and hearty bacon-and-egg rolls, while sweet-tooth visitors queued for gooey s’mores. A vibrant mix of food trucks ensured every craving was covered, offering an enticing range of flavours for hungry families.

Young thrillseekers were kept busy with a lively selection of carnival rides, while neon glow sticks—sold by the P&C—lit up the grounds in a wash of blinking colours as the sun went down. A talented local musician set the tone throughout the night, keeping crowds tapping along to upbeat live tunes.

One of the most popular attractions was the community raffle, generously supported by local businesses. Vouchers, hampers, and family experiences were up for grabs, drawing an impressive number of entries from residents eager to try their luck.

But it was the fireworks that truly stole the show. As the crowd gathered, the sky erupted in a dazzling display — Glenorie’s own moment to “let our colours burst” and a fitting finale to an already memorable evening.

The event’s success was the result of months of planning by an energetic team of P&C volunteers, whose dedication not only raised valuable funds for Glenorie Public School but also strengthened the bond between families, neighbours and local businesses. Their efforts were supported on the night by school staff and an enthusiastic community who pitched in — whether by running stalls, buying raffle tickets, or simply sharing in the excitement.

With its strong community roots and vibrant school culture, Glenorie Public School remains a highly regarded choice for local families. For enrolment enquiries or to book a guided tour, contact the school office on 02 9652 1237.
