Jane Seaglove: ANZAC Day Remembrance

Hello Residents,

ANZAC Day is a significant occasion at Glenorie RSL, bringing the community together to honour and remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans.

The day typically begins with a march, followed by a Commemorative Service where wreaths are laid, and heartfelt speeches reflect on the bravery and sacrifices of those who served.

Families, veterans, and locals are all welcome to participate in the day’s events. Glenorie RSL provides a meaningful space for everyone to pay their respects, ensuring the ANZAC spirit and legacy continue to thrive.

Galston Public School invited Council to attend their special ANZAC Day ceremony on May 1st, following the students’ return from holidays. The students hosted a heartfelt event, reading poems they had written to honour the fallen diggers. Recently, three new flagpoles were installed at the school, and during the ceremony, the students respectfully raised the flags to half-mast.

While visiting, I took the opportunity to explore the school grounds and was impressed by the gardens and fruit trees the children had planted. Teaching children how food is grown is important, especially in a community with such a rich agricultural history.

Special Entertainment Precinct is a designated area where sound conditions and trading hours are regulated through a council-managed precinct plan. This framework aims to support and enhance Hornsby’s nighttime economy breathing some much-needed life into their after-dark economy.

After a resolution by Council in December, officers successfully secured a Special Entertainment Precinct Kickstart Grant from the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner. This funding will be used to establish a trial Special Entertainment Precinct in Hornsby for a period of 12–18 months, marking an exciting step forward for the local community.

Helping Hearts Op Shop is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to supporting families in need. Established in 2024, the organisation works in providing nutritious food hampers and promoting sustainable solutions to food insecurity.

The team offers food hampers filled with fresh, wholesome food to families in need for a small donation. These efforts are made possible through the proceeds from Op Shop sales and generous support from local partners, including Aldi at Galston, Harris Farm in Dural, Dural Kiosk, and Cordina Chicken.

We invite you to visit Helping Hearts Survive to shop and contribute by donating quality clothing for men, women, and children, as well as toys and kitchenware.
