Reflections of Yesteryear

Fagan Park was buzzing with activity at their recent Yesteryear Open Day. The Netherby veranda and spring garden created a lovely backdrop for our market tables, with the proceeds from sales supporting the maintenance and restoration of Netherby artefacts.

In the leadup to the day, volunteers were busy propagating cuttings from the garden, such as sweetly scented geraniums and succulents.

We picked oranges from the tree in the back yard and made Netherby Marmalade; the blacksmiths forged butterflies and small hand tools. Bric-a-brac was collected and proved to be intriguing to visitors. The display looked inviting.

Out in the dairy, visitors were shown how to make butter in an old churn. Volunteers and even some visitors dressed in vintage attire that reflected the yesteryear theme.

Our mechanically minded enthusiasts prepared trucks, tractors and small engines for display. It was a joy to see the old Bruce Fagan Leyland Cub truck and “Annie Lorry”, the Sommerville truck, numerous vintage tractors, along with a group of WW2 military vehicles, parade around Fagan Park.

Fagan Park is something special. The “Friends of Fagan Park” are a dedicated group of volunteers. If you would like to learn about volunteering, please give us a call or drop in on any Tuesday to Netherby. (Contact: Julie 0412 766 553)
