Rapid Upgrades at Cockayne Reserve

Dr Peter Gangemi – Mayor of The Hills Shire Council

The construction works to upgrade Cockayne Reserve in Castle Hill continue at a rapid pace.

Cockayne Reserve is located along Cattai Creek in the Castle Hill Showground Precinct, and is being upgraded to include:
  • Two new pedestrian bridges, which will eventually link Middleton Avenue to Hills Showground Metro Station
  • One new local playground on Middleton Ave and one playground renewal on White Cedar Drive
  • Two-kilometres of shared pathway and
  • Seating areas and landscaping.
I was fortunate to inspect the first pedestrian bridge which has been installed and it looks fantastic. This bridge, and the second bridge under construction use Fibre Reinforced Polymer for structural members, which utilise recycled materials, making it a more environmentally friendly solution.
Current works on site include drainage works and retaining wall works as well as pavement and playground construction. Footpaths are also currently being installed and abutments are being constructed for the second bridge.
The project is scheduled to be completed early next year. I am looking forward to seeing this wonderful reserve upgraded, enhancing the Cattai Creek corridor for the community around the Showground precinct.
