Is Our World on a Crash Course With Authenticity?

As we hide behind walls offering glimpses of reality – those that are “insta” worthy – are we speeding towards a head on collision with truth?

The famous retort of Pilate resonates, “What is truth?”

Has culture so clouded our judgment that we can no longer discern truth from ction? Our real selves from our public personas?

With ever rising levels of mental health; anxiety, fear, depression, addiction, suicide … how long before we encounter truth? How long before we even desire truth?

Our society has hoodwinked us into believing that more is better. More money, more power, more wealth, more possessions, more control, more for me which ultimately means less for you.

Yet time and time again I’ve seen that those that achieve this “more” actually seem to have less. Less joy, less security, less trust. Though do achieve more anxiety and more fear trying to protect what they have eked out.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

If the answer doesn’t lie in wealth could it lie somewhere else? Could we achieve security somewhere other than money? Find joy in something other than possessions? Discover fullment, our plans and purpose, without the pursuit of destructive power?

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Matthew 6:25

Are we not more than our possessions? Our jobs? Our bank balance?

Truth escapes no man – all will face it at some point. But when faced with our authentic selves will we be happy with what we see? Will the mirror reect a face lled with joy or fear? Bound by love or alone?

This month I encourage you to seek truth. Does what you do give fullment? Who you are ll you with joy or loss?

There is a way, a truth and a life that offers true hope. In fact it is “THE way, THE truth and THE life” (John 14:6) and if we mimic this life then we are promised access to the Father and a life that will be lled with hope and joy.

Socrates shared the wisdom know thyself. Are we ready to face our authentic self?

You can nd your true self, and with it, the joy, peace and love that has proved so elusive … and you will get rest.
