Local Galston student Tyler Old of Northholm Grammar School won the public speaking section of Lions Youth Of the Year event run by West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Lions Club recently. Tyler did exceptionally well in answering the two impromptu questions “What Does School NOT teach you?” and “What Does The Face Mask Represent To You?” She was exceptional with her delivery of the prepared five minute speech, beating a strong field from William Clarke College, Pennant Hills High and Normanhurst Boys High. Tyler spoke passionately about a topical issue of relationships during covid with a speech entitled “Influence We Have On Others”. Tyler was encouraged and mentored by the enthusiastic Northholm Grammar Principal Christopher Bradbury, himself a Lions Youth Of The Year participant in his day.
Local Glenorie identities Margaret Mackay and Stan Shore were part of an experienced judging panel who where charged with the task of differentiating the outstanding profiles presented by such an exceptional field of wonderful young school leaders. After intense and searching interviews the panel chose Corbin Ellis, School Captain of William Clarke College, as the overall winner to represent the Lions Club of West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook at the Regional Round. Corbin was supported by the dynamic English and debating teacher Heather Kroll of Kenthurst.
