With the 2016 breeding season generally at an end, most breeder/ exhibitors will endeavour to miss the worse of the hot conditions over the summer months. As part of the preparation associated with showing is the regular spraying of the birds, to improve the birds’ condition and general good health. Over recent weeks the extreme heat being experienced has seen the spraying also serving to improve the aviary environment for the birds, whilst also providing an enjoyable interest for the birds. The average budgerigar kept as a pet should have the spraying of cool fresh clean water as a regular event during the hot weather. Use of a hand held non-pressurised spray bottle is ideal. The Royal Agricultural Society has announced a Caged Birds closing date of the 22nd February 2017, with the show being conducted during the 6th and 7th of April 2017.
This year 2017 Caged Birds Show as part of the Royal Easter Show experience will be held in the new location at the Pet Pavilion in Hall 3 on Riverina Avenue. The hall will be open to the public between the hours of 9-30am to 8-30pm on the above dates. In conjunction with Caged Bird Exhibition, a number of trade stands will be available for the general public along with a pet related entertainment arena. February is a busy month for shows, with the following branches holding their Annual Show namely; Illawarra 5th, Shoalhaven 12th, Northern NSW 18th, St George 19th , Canberra 26th, and Newcastle 26th also.
Hills Branch will hold its Annual Show on the 5th March at the Don Moore Community Centre at North Rocks Road, North Rocks. and will be open to the general public from 12 noon, with free admission.
