New regulations relating to the sale and lease of homes with swimming pools will come into effect from April 29.
Vendors and landlords must now provide a certificate of compliance relating to the swimming pool fencing when selling or renting out their home.
Council’s General Manager Dave Walker called on residents to have their pool fence inspected by council officers or accredited private certifiers.
“Council and privately accredited certifiers can carry out inspections of pools to assess whether they comply with the NSW Government’s regulations,” Mr Walker said.
“These regulations might seem like a hassle to homeowners but given the number of infant drownings in backyard swimming pools, I’d argue it’s well worth it.”
“More than 90 per cent of swimming pools are non-compliant on first inspection which shows that these regulations are absolutely necessary.”
