Wild Habitats is set to receive $18,750 from the Morrison Government to restore Provest Creek, a tributary of Berowra Creek, which is known to have poor water quality.
The Provest Creek and surrounding environment is a known habitat of the red-crowned toadlet which is listed as a vulnerable species. This Federal funding will allow restoration of the habitat via weed removal and planting of native species appropriate for the area. The project will also measure the effectiveness of the regeneration work on local fauna via baseline and completion surveys.
“I am pleased that this funding will enable Wild Habitats to invest time and resources into restoring our local environment. Our waterways are all connected and have a huge impact on the broader environment. I commend Wild Habitats for undertaking this important work,” said Julian Leeser MP.
The funding, provided as part of the Communities Environment Program, will allow restoration of the Provest Creek, preserving the habitat of local fauna.
“We have a highly disturbed creek line that has been impacted by urban run-off and sewer lines and this funding will enable us to restore the creek line to a healthy state,” said Karen Benhar, co-founder of Wild Habitats.
Wild Habitats is an environmental conservation organisation focussed on improving habitat for native animals. Their invaluable work involves restoring degraded bush on Sydney’s north shore.
