Hayes Park was buzzing on Sunday, 10 May as Hills Hawks Football Club turned out in force to celebrate Female Football Week, and to watch three of their all-female teams compete on home soil.
The club runs five women’s sides this season, from under-10s through to under-18s, and the day reminded anyone watching just how far the program has come. Families filled the sidelines. After the final whistles blew, players from both Hills Hawks and their visiting opponents sat down to chocolates — a small gesture that landed well after some hard-fought matches.
The date fell on Mother’s Day too, so the celebration stretched beyond the players. Mums, nanas, aunties and family friends who had spent the morning watching from the sidelines were brought into the moment. The club made it clear that it sees its presence as more than background support.
Hills Hawks and sponsor Belle Property now have their sights set on the next occasion — the club’s 10th Anniversary Ladies Day, scheduled for Saturday 20 June at Hayes Park.
