Middle Dural Public School has taken a leading role in a growing regional effort to better support high-potential learners, joining with Arcadia Public School and Hillside Public School to deliver a large-scale enrichment day held on 20 March 2026.
The initiative reflects a broader shift in New South Wales education toward collaborative program delivery, particularly for gifted and talented students in smaller or semi-rural school communities. By pooling resources and expertise, the three schools created a program designed to stretch students academically while also supporting creative, physical and social development.
The enrichment day featured a diverse timetable, including Aboriginal art and cultural activities, dance workshops, hands-on science investigations and STEM-based sessions focused on robotics and coding. External partnerships played a central role in expanding the program’s scope, with contributions from environmental education centres such as Longneck Lagoon Environmental Education Centre and Brewongle Environmental Education Centre.
Additional academic and technical support came from Galston High School, Richmond Agricultural Centre and the Department of Education’s Digital Support Team, highlighting a multi-layered approach to enrichment that blends school, community and departmental expertise.
The program has expanded in 2026 to include students from Macdonald Valley Public School, Maroota Public School and Wisemans Ferry Public School, signalling a growing network aimed at improving access to advanced learning opportunities in smaller schools.
Physical education and leadership development were also central components, with coaching sessions delivered through links to the Western Sydney Wanderers and Australia’s National Rugby League. These sessions were designed to build teamwork, confidence and resilience alongside athletic skills.
Educators used the day not only as a learning experience but also as an opportunity to observe and assess student strengths. Insights gathered are expected to inform future programming, ensuring that high-potential learners receive targeted support throughout the school year.
The success of the initiative has contributed to ongoing enrichment programs, including extracurricular clubs and access to emerging technologies such as 3D printing and filmmaking tools, reinforcing a long-term commitment to nurturing diverse student talents.
