More than 60 artworks exploring waste, sustainability and environmental impact have been shortlisted for the 2026 Remagine Art Prize, a long-running initiative led by Hornsby Shire Council. The selected works will go on public display at the Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre from 15 to 31 May.
Now in its 17th year, the prize continues to challenge artists to confront the realities of global waste through creative practice. Delivered in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society, the competition spans multiple disciplines, including sculpture, photography, painting, ceramics and mixed media.
This year’s theme, Built to Expire, turns attention to the growing issue of planned obsolescence—where everyday items such as electronics, appliances and vehicles are designed with limited lifespans. The shortlisted works reflect a wide range of interpretations, from critiques of consumer culture to inventive reuses of discarded materials.
Judged by Ed Woolley and Dario Falzon, the competition offers a total prize pool of $11,000, with winners to be announced on the exhibition’s opening day. The event continues to position Hornsby as a hub for environmentally conscious art, encouraging audiences to reconsider their relationship with waste.
