Hornsby Shire Council has an exciting program of free events in store for NSW Youth Week 2025. Celebrating this year’s theme, ‘We are the future, and the future is now!’, there is something for everyone with a chance for young people to learn something new, have fun, and showcase their talents.
The events kick off on Tuesday 1 April, when the Young Artist 2025 exhibition, Colour My World, will open at the Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre. Presented by Hornsby Art Society, the competition encourages the next generation of artists.
Those aged 16-24 are invited to enrol in a Voting Workshop on Wednesday 9 April in Hornsby Library. Running in partnership with Youth Decide, from 4pm to 5.30pm, pizza and drinks will also be provided. Spaces are limited, so bookings are essential.
Young people are also invited to come together and attend a free movie night at Event Cinemas Hornsby on Saturday 12 April at 6.30pm where A Minecraft Movie will be shown and snacks provided. Bookings are essential as places are limited and will fill up fast.
Those looking to pick up a bargain and support sustainable living can come along to the Second Hand Hornsby Market on Sunday 13 April from 9am until 1pm on Coronation Street. Some of the items that are expected to be on offer include clothing, books and sporting equipment.
For those looking to try something new, a Ceramics Course on Monday 14 April, with a 10am or 1.30pm start, for ages 14-24 will sure to be fun, and a Barista Course for ages 12-24 on Tuesday 15 April, 10am-1pm, will come in handy for those looking to learn valuable skills for seeking some casual or part-time work at a café. Both of these courses will be held in Hornsby and spaces are limited, so bookings are essential.
Young people keen to be prepared for emergencies, an insightful Community CPR and First Aid Workshop will be held at Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Tuesday 15 April, 10.30am-12.30pm, and a light lunch provided. Spaces are limited, so bookings are essential.
Those young people looking for somewhere to hang out with their friends can pick up a free pass to Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre or Galston Aquatic and Leisure Centre as well as some other goodies at Pop Up Prizes. The pass can be used for a free swim or a workout at the gym during Youth Week and April school holidays. Pop Up Prizes will be occurring at Galston Skate Park on 11 April (3-4pm), Cherrybrook Village Shopping Centre on 16 April (11am-12pm) and Pennant Hills Library and Community Centre on 16 April (1-2pm).
