Woodbury Reserve in Glossodia is entering a new chapter, with construction now underway on a comprehensive redevelopment to reshape the community’s primary recreational space.
The project stems from a masterplan endorsed in 2022 after detailed public consultation. It is funded through a mix of state and federal programs, including the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants initiative and the Australian Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program. Federal funding of $3 million was secured in 2022, laying the groundwork for the transformation.
By mid-2027, the reserve will offer multi-purpose sports courts, improved cricket practice facilities and a contemporary amenities building. Parking capacity will be expanded, and upgraded accessways will enhance safety and inclusivity across the parklands.
A significant focus of the redevelopment is on versatility. A multi-age playground and new picnic shelters with barbecues are designed to encourage families to spend longer periods at the site, while a shared path network will improve connectivity for walkers, cyclists and people with mobility needs.
The reserve’s existing skate park will be complemented by the BMX Pump Track and Mountain Bike Trails completed in August 2024 with $455,000 from the NSW Government’s Open Spaces Program: Places to Play grant.
The start of construction was attended by Peter Primrose, Susan Templeman and Les Sheather, reflecting the multi-level government backing behind the project.
For the growing Hawkesbury district, the redevelopment represents more than new infrastructure. It signals a broader investment in regional communities seeking modern, accessible public spaces that support sport, wellbeing and social connection.
