Calling all artists – get out your paintbrush and easel because the Hornsby Art Prize is now open for entries, with the prize money doubled to $10, 000 this year.
The Hornsby Art Prize is an annual art award and exhibition open to all Australians, with finalists’ works being shown at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre as part of the 2016 Festival of the Arts later this year.
Entries are now open, with artists invited to submit works in one of four different categories – painting, drawing, printmaking or 3D works – up until midnight Sunday 18 September.
As well as having the chance of getting their artwork viewed in person by thousands of people as part of the finalists’ exhibition, entrants can also win big cash prizes.
The major acquisitive prize this year is $10, 000 cash – double the money compared to previous years’ awards – plus an annual membership to the Hornsby Art Society.
Budding Picassos may also be up for the Hornsby Emerging Artist Award, which includes a $1, 000 voucher for art supplies as well as a $1, 000 tuition voucher, and a supported solo exhibition at Wallarobba in 2017 to develop their creative practice.
Finally, the People’s Choice Award is decided by vote in person at the exhibition, and via Facebook, with the winner receiving $250.
The Hornsby Art Prize is sponsored by Hornsby Shire Council and delivered in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society
Submissions are to be made online, and entering the exhibition costs only $26.
