Washing ponies and water balloons – beating the heat at Arcadia Pony Club

One of our recent rally days was held on a very hot Sunday. So, after a morning of flatwork and sporting we enjoyed an afternoon of horsemanship with a washing and grooming session and water play to beat the heat!

All of our riders first hosed their ponies down then with them all safely tied up against the fence; they all got a good shampoo and wash down, followed by another hose. There also may have been one or two riders that were as wet as some of the horses but what would you expect on a warm spring day?

Once the ponies were hosed off and scraped to remove the excess water, they were rugged and returned to their yards for a drink, hay and a break. And then the next round of fun started….

We weren’t sure of the relevance to horse riding (or anything else!) but our riding members thought it was hilarious to race against each other in very big bras (worn over their clothes!) filled with water balloons. And it was not at all a surprise that it ended up with a water balloon fight. A big thanks to our wonderful instructor Giselle for organising the day and we do hope that you had a change of clothes after being targeted with the water balloons!

And let’s not forget the final activity for the day – apple ducking! After a few sessions our members became quite skilled at this so we’ll be sure to do this again another rally day. And there were a lot of happy ponies munching on the many apple cores as well. Just another fun day at Arcadia Pony Club with tired and happy kids and ponies.
