Mandarin-speaking Hills residents have graduated from the Tech Savvy Seniors program at the Castle Hill Library.
The program, which teaches seniors to use an iPad to access the internet, has been funded by a grant from the State Library of NSW in partnership with Telstra.
Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said it was fantastic to meet the graduates.
“This program ticks a number of very important boxes as far as I’m concerned. It keeps our senior residents engaged and it connects with various ethnic groups within our community, in this case our many Chinese residents,” Mayor Byrne said.
“The internet has become such an integral part of our lives, but can you imagine how daunting it would be for a senior resident, particularly when English is not their first language.”
“This program gives our seniors a wonderful opportunity to further connect with loved ones via the internet, as well as giving them the ability to make transactions and manage their lives online.”
