Sydney Hills Lunar Festival is a feast of colour, taste and sound

The Sydney Hills Lunar Festival is back! This vibrant Lunar New Year celebration will return to North Rocks Park and Don Moore Community Centre this February with free family fun and fireworks.

Now in its third year the Sydney Hills Lunar Festival showcases the community spirit and cultural diversity within the Hills community.

“The Sydney Hills Lunar Festival is one of the many great community events that The Hills Shire Council is proud to offer the Hills community,” Mayor of the Hills Shire Dr Michelle Bryne said.

“In 2011 demographic surveys showed that over 29% of the Carlingford community were born in an Asian country. This demographic makeup has been reflected in the businesses and cultural groups operating in the area, so it’s great that we can hold a community event that reflects this diversity right in its heart,” Mayor Byrne said.

This year’s Lunar Festival will celebrate The Year of the Monkey and promises to be as colourful and exciting as ever.

Kids will love the brightly coloured festivities with dazzling cultural performances and great activities including face-painting, balloon twisting, craft, pop-up library, photo booth and traditional arts and craft workshops.

Lovers of Asian cuisine will enjoy amazing fruit carving and cooking demonstrations as well as a variety of delicious eats from food stalls and popular Sydney Food Trucks; Mama Lihn’s, Agape, Eat Art Truck and Tsuru.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! Young and old alike will be mystified by fan dancing, traditional Lion Dance, God of Fortune- who will be handing out red money envelopes, amusement rides, stilt walkers and fireworks. There will also be a variety of traditional arts and crafts on display as well as live entertainment and musical performances.

“The Sydney Hills Lunar Festival is a favourite among Councillors and locals alike; we are proud of this event and look forward to it each year. I am excited to see what this year’s festival has on offer and hope to see it continue in future years,” Mayor Byrne said.

Welcome in the Year of the Monkey on 13 February 3-9pm at North Rocks Park and Don Moore Community Centre Carlingford. For more information visit www.thehills.nsw.gov.au
