Scouts Australia Welcomes Young People to Explore and Learn
Scouting is all about young people learning and growing so they can help create a better world. The purpose of the Scout Movement is to contribute to the education of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
Scouts are in many ways very different to those of yesteryear… and in many ways still the same. We still go camping and bushwalking, we still love getting involved in pioneering and survival skills, but the New Youth Program now has a fabulous approach whereby youth members learn how to be leaders in their communities.
They participate, assist and then lead a whole host of adventurous, fun, challenging and inclusive activities and set themselves goals and challenges – all the way supported by some amazing Scout Leaders.
This ‘Youth Leading – Adults Supporting’ method starts with simple things at Joey level (5 – 8 year olds) and broadens out to helping run weeknight activities in Cub Scouts (8 – 11 year olds), then leading weeknight or weekend activities at Scouts (11 – 14 year olds), through to perhaps running camps and other big events by the time they reach Venturers (15 – 17 year olds) or Rovers (18 – 26 year olds).
If these are the skills and opportunities you’d like to offer your child, then don’t hesitate. Dural Scout Group welcomes visitors who would like to come and see how it works and spend a couple of weeks trying out Scouting.
