Dural Musical Society is proud to bring the pantomime Robin Hood & the Babes in the Wood to the stage in May 2018. Ben Crocker provides a fun-filled modern-day pantomime that will have everyone laughing and singing along. This Panto keeps the tradition of a Principal Boy, played by a female, and the pantomime Dame, played by a male – pitted against the wicked villain, which in this Panto is the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. More than any other form of theatre, pantomime brings so many of the arts together – as well as singing, dancing and acting that you would find in all musicals, there are the overtones of puppetry, mime, slapstick comedy, vaudeville, theatre restaurant and, of course, audience participation.
Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men and Women are called to protect not only the lovely Maid Marion from the fate of having to marry the evil sheriff, but also Tommy and Tilly, the Sheriff of Nottingham’s nephew and niece – the Babes in the Wood. Will Robin win the day?
Perhaps the eager assistance of the local school teacher Winnie Widebottom combined with the daring of Robin’s faithful band of robbers who “steal from the rich to give to the poor” will be the winning combination for our man who lives in the forest. Directors Laura Murdocca and Eddie Bruce team up with Musical Director Nickie Eccleston, and Choreographer Stephanie Quaglia, to pull together the talents of an enthusiastic cast in this traditional pantomime. It is a team that brings years of experience gained in musical theatre to the traditional English pantomime format that is designed to delight audiences of all ages. The format also supports our commitment to developing young performers – and with two casts of young people, we have increased the number of children involved in the production. The two groups of children performers will alternate performances, and details have been provided to the cast and their parents so that they can advise friends and family of specific matinee and evening show dates.
