By Dr Peter Gangemi - Mayor of The Hills Shire Council
While flood waters have now receded in The Hills, the following roads remain closed, except for local residents: Road Closure and Flooding
– Chapel Hill Road, Sackville North
– Mud Island Road Sackville North
– Pages Wharf Road Sackville North
River Road also remains closed to motorists between properties 999-1071 (Blundells Swamp) and 1701-1832 (2km north of Cliftonville Road). The section north of Cliftonville Road may be closed for some time as Council waits on further geotechnical advice after this section of this road was damaged from flood waters. Repairs will be needed to fix this portion of road. In the meantime, I advise motorists, especially holiday makers, to avoid this section of River Road or to follow the detours, which are currently in place.
Council crews and contractors have also been working around the clock to fill in potholes as quickly as possible. If you see a pothole or a fallen tree on public property please report it to Council via our Report it to Council webpage: https://www.thehills.nsw.gov.au/…/Report-Request
Wisemans Ferry Park also remains closed to the public after the area sustained further damage from the most recent flood event. Planning is now well underway to commence the clean-up.
Much of Council’s efforts and resources remains on flood cleanup and repairs, and this is creating a park and reserve maintenance backlog. The constant rain has also impacted our reserves and parks, making it difficult to mow and maintain.
Council is working hard to get to all our facilities, however, access to properties affected by the floods is our main priority and that’s because of the safety issues this presents. I thank our residents for their patience and understanding at this point in time.
