CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! GALSTON HIGH SCHOOL PILES UP THE BOOKS

Galston High School students’ love of reading is always evident during the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). The Challenge runs from March to August each year. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.

With the 2020 PRC well underway, Galston High School students were keen to access as many books as possible through the school library’s free postal delivery service and digital library during the learning from home period, as well as devouring books at home. Regular wide reading back in the classroom has had students working hard to read and log 20 books by the end of August to complete the PRC successfully.

Last year saw record levels of participation in the Premier’s Reading Challenge at Galston High School, with 143 students successfully completing the challenge. Most notably, four students were awarded the prestigious PRC Medal, which recognises the completion of the challenge every year since Year 3.

2020 looks set to be another record year at Galston High School, with students from Years 7-9 diving into and logging their books online.
