Raising Education Standards in Our Community

Illegal Tobacco
From the desk of James Wallace, Member for Hornsby

Many who choose to live in our area do so because of the world-class schools in our community. Parents want a well-rounded education for their children with access to sport, the arts, and organisations like scouts and guides. Inside the classroom they want their children to excel and when they fall behind, help to catch up.

The incredible teachers in our schools don’t just come to school each day relying on their existing knowledge. They are also undertaking dedicated training outside of the classroom to build their expertise and experience, before bringing that back to their classroom and their colleagues. It’s a powerful reminder that when we equip teachers with the right tools, our children benefit.

But we know there is more to do to make these improvements possible. I recently spoke in NSW Parliament about the importance of raising education standards across the board.

While we are seeing exciting leaps in results for schools with access to those training programs, we need a systematic implementation plan for every school in the area and not just some, and a meaningful program to follow up and evaluate implementation.

Some of the schools in our community, because of their size, face additional challenges in doing this. That needs to change and it’s the State government’s job to make that happen, which is what I’ll be fighting for on behalf of our community.

That is one of the many reasons why I was so pleased to commit $15,000 to Middle Dural Public School for new outdoor shading and seating recently, so that we can provide schools in our area with the support they deserve regardless of their size.
