The Probus Club of the Hills Embarks on a Surprise Rail Journey

The Probus Club of the Hills recently concluded its latest “Mystery Coach Tour,” a popular tradition that this year led members to the historic Thirlmere Rail Museum for a day of unexpected discoveries.

The tour commenced with a stop for morning tea at the scenic botanical gardens in Picton before the coach proceeded to the mystery destination. Upon arrival at the Thirlmere Rail Museum, members were treated to a comprehensive guided tour of the exhibits, which was followed by a provided lunch. The highlight of the day was a return trip between Thirlmere and Buxton aboard the historic Railmotor CPH 18.

This most recent outing follows a series of successful mystery tours that have previously taken members to the Coal Loader at Waverton and the Q Station.

Club Activities and Membership

The Probus Club of the Hills is currently seeking to expand its membership base among residents in the Galston area. The club meets on the second Wednesday of most months at the Galston Club, featuring guest speakers who address a diverse range of subjects, from IT security protocols to historical anecdotes on figures such as Winston Churchill.

Beyond the monthly meetings, the club maintains an active calendar of events, including a walking group, bowls, golf, a dedicated Grumpy Old Blokes group, and a book club. The club also organises an annual week-long trip to destinations across the country, with recent locations including Albury, Jindabyne, and Broken Hill.

Prospective members interested in joining the friendly and active Probus Club of the Hills can direct their enquiries to Bob Heyward at 0427 360 389 or via email at bnlheyward@hotmail.com.
