Is Your Property Bushfire Prepared?

With the official bushfire season kicking off on 1st October and several bush and grass fires already occurring in the Sydney area the NSW RFS advises all property owners to take the time to prepare their properties to improve their ability of defending against an approaching bushfire.

Removing ground fuels from around your assets is essential so raking leaves, bark and branches is a good start. Cleaning out gutters and trimming back branches overhanging buildings can also help prevent a bushfire becoming a structure fire. By keeping grass and weeds slashed / mowed you can also slow the spread of a fire.

Outdoor furniture and play equipment can also fuel a fire so can it easily be moved out of harms way at short notice and is last winters firewood pile positioned away from buildings. To say informed of fire activity in your area download the ‘Hazards Near Me” app on your smart phone.

More detailed information on how to prepare for and defend against a bushfire can be found at the NSW Rural Fire Service website or by contacting your local Fire Control Centre.
