Make time on the weekend and participate in a new museum opening at Castle Hill as Powerhouse Museum will launch its Hills Shire branch on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 March 2024.
The weekend opening celebrations will be jampacked with activities, performances, tours, talks, workshops and more.
The launch on Saturday will begin with a Welcome to Country, the official opening of Powerhouse Castle Hill, and a performance by one of Australia’s oldest lion and dragon dancing troupe, Jin Wu Koon. Castle Hill Rotary Club will have some barbeques ready.
Opening day highlights include a performance from the Aboriginal Dance Company ‘Jannawi Dance Clan’, natural dyeing techniques at the ‘Alchemy’ Exhibition, music from the Western Sydney Youth Orchestra, and weaving activities at the Angela Paikea Artist Workshop.
Sunday highlights include First-Nation-creatives-led weaving and dyeing workshops and performances by First Nation artists such as Isaac Compton and Manea Pacifica. Different talents such as DJ DIOLA, Hills Community Concert Band, Bindi Bosses, and Nostalgia Ensemble will grace the stage on Sunday.
Attendees can expect tours such as the Lahznimmo Architects Tour, Amanda Williams Artists Tour, First Nations Tour, Registrar Tour, and Construction Tour. There will also be workshops, like the Durrmu Arts Workshop and the Botanical Dyeing Workshop with Gianna Hayes.

According to Powerhouse Museum, “Powerhouse Castle Hill is expanding with new state-of-the-art facilities for the storage and preservation of the Powerhouse Collection, which contains more than half a million objects. It is open to the community every weekend.”

The Museum has three other branches: Parramatta, Ultimo, and Sydney Observatory. It is open on weekends from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
