The Hawkesbury Nepean Landcare Network (HNLN) is actively involved in the Resilient Rivers for Resilient Platypus Project, spearheaded by Western Sydney University, thanks to a $1 million grant from the Federal Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchment Program.
This important project aims to create new habitats for the beloved platypus by developing a series of ‘platypus parks’ along the Hawkesbury-Nepean River over the next three years.
HNLN is enhancing the RRRP effort by conducting more Land for Wildlife (LFW) assessments. This complimentary program assists private landowners in managing biodiversity and native habitats on their properties, making them eligible for a $2,000 annual grant to support environmental restoration efforts.
“Through our LFW assessments, HNLN is engaging more landowners in the protection of the platypus. We provide them with the necessary information and support to restore riverbanks on their properties and play a vital role in establishing new platypus parks,” says Monique Bailey, LLC.
