The Hills Shire Council has partnered with local over-60s soccer group Alive and Kicking Hills to help older residents stay active, socially connected and engaged through an affordable, community-focused soccer program.
Held every Tuesday from 8.30 am at Ted Horwood Reserve in Baulkham Hills, the weekly sessions offer a welcoming, low-impact version of the game designed specifically for older players. Since launching in August 2025, the program has expanded rapidly, growing from eight participants to around 20 regular players, reflectinga strong local appetite for age-appropriate sport and social connection.
Council support includes access to local playing fields and sponsorship assistance to keep participation costs low, reinforcing a broader push to remove barriers to physical activity for seniors. The initiative highlights the role grassroots sport can play in promoting both physical and mental well-being, while also strengthening community ties among older residents.
Alive and Kicking Hills was established with a simple aim: to keep people moving, connected and enjoying sport later in life. The group brings together players aged from their early 60s to well into their 80s, with an emphasis on safety, light-hearted competition and camaraderie. Matches are non-contact and social by design, with the post-game catch-up over coffee proving just as important as time on the field.
Open to anyone aged 60 and over, Alive and Kicking Hills continues to attract retirees and older residents keen to remain active and involved in their local community. Those interested in joining or finding out more can contact The Hills Shire Council or email [email protected].
