More than 300 families celebrated well at Christmas thanks to Norwest Salvos’ provision of food hampers, toys and personal items.
Christmas cheer distribution from centres at Windsor, Nelson and Dural brightened the lives of more than a thousand people doing it tough. Despair turned to delight for one homeless woman who received a hamper and toys for her grandchildren from Rouse Hill Salvos at Nelson.
“After taking a hamper to her car, she brought some food items back, “ Amanda Pethybridge, one of the Norwest church leaders explained. “She reluctantly disclosed that she was a victim of domestic violence and in a desperate situation in need of permanent accommodation.
Her sadness turned to gladness when we organised financial assistance through our Doorways service and referrals for accommodation and to our Employment Plus to get a job. “It was a privilege to provide counselling and spiritual support” Amanda added.
The regional church leader, Matt Pethybridge, expressed sincere appreciation to the 50 volunteers who prepared the Christmas cheer handouts.
“Corporate support from KMart Wishing Tree, Rouse Hill Bunnings, other local businesses, schools and individuals who assisted in various ways to bring hope and joy to so many people, is so valued and appreciated,” Matt concluded.
