Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser MP has welcomed approval for the construction of a new mobile phone tower at Sackville North. Construction is expected to commence in coming months.
Mr Leeser said he understands the need for a mobile phone tower in the area, particularly after his two recent visits to the Sackville North Rural Fire Brigade.
“I know how important mobile phones are, particularly in the more rural parts of the electorate. For everyday communications, conducting business and emergency services, especially in the event of a bushfire.”
“Residents in towns including Sackville North, South Maroota, Maraylya and Forest Glen live in one of the most beautiful parts of our electorate, but the topography of the area also presents telecommunications challenges.”
A new mobile phone tower for Sackville North was funded through the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program. In the Parliament last month, Mr Leeser asked the Minister for Urban Infrastructure, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, when local residents could expect the tower to be delivered.
“Construction of the Sackville North tower is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2017 and, subject to planning approval from council, to be online by Christmas,” Minister Fletcher said.
“Once constructed, this tower will deliver better mobile coverage and improved safety for local residents,” Mr Leeser said.
