Middle Dural Public School has launched a new term of Interest Groups, rolling out a mix of creative, academic and physical activities designed to match the talents and passions of its students.
The program, developed through feedback from students, input from parents and teacher observations, offers four key streams this term: drama, 3D printing, sport and cooking. Together, they cover all domains of High Potential and Gifted Education.
One of the most popular offerings so far has been the cooking group, boosted by strong parent support. Each fortnight a different parent will guide students through new recipes, with the focus firmly on healthy, hands-on learning. Students can expect everything from sushi and tzatziki to pancakes and homemade muesli bars. A recent highlight was a mango, lime and turmeric sorbet that won enthusiastic reviews from young chefs.
Drama sessions will be led by Dallas Reedman, whose experience and energy have already generated excitement within the school community. His role has been funded by the school’s P&C, and staff say they look forward to seeing new talents emerge under his guidance.
The school is also embracing new technology through a 3D printing kit accessed via the Department of Education’s STEM Booking System. With the support of School Learning Support Officer Mr Date, students will design and create personalised keychains — practical keepsakes they can proudly attach to their school bags.
Sport remains a favourite at Middle Dural, and teacher Miss O’Brien will oversee a program aimed at building both social skills and athletic ability. Students will also benefit from professional coaching in soccer and netball, while weekly PSSA OzTag and Netball competitions continue to draw strong participation.
With such a broad range of activities on offer, staff say Term 3 promises to be an engaging and enriching experience for every student at Middle Dural Public School.
As a new term approaches, the local school is excited to offer enriching educational experiences.
