Middle Dural Public School

What a cracking start to an exciting new year at our small school! The children were greeted back with beaming smiles from teachers with lots of fun things to get started on.

We welcomed 6 beautiful new families to Middle Dural Public School and firm friends have already been made. Always remember every day is Open Day at Middle Dural Public School. The amazing opportunities a small school provides are numerous and each child receives so much more individual attention and space to grow.

The year kicked off with BootCamp where our students from years 1-6 re-booted their learning power through individual and group activities such as ingenuity, teamwork and perseverance required to build a fantastic free standing shoe tower, the children had such fun.

The Environment team from Hornsby Shire Council visited us to share their knowledge and promote environmental awareness around recycling and composting. Students sorted items that could or could not be composted and they also explored the ins and outs of worm farming. This paired nicely with our work on making the canteen totally Green, with the elimination of all plastic. We have replaced single-use plastic with bamboo crockery, so when our students have finished their lunch they scrape their plates into our “Chooky Bin” and pop them into the wash-up basket. Our canteen Queens are aptly named for the dedication, hard work and love they put into creating fresh wholesome food made to order on the day. Canteen Queens are also taking the children around the world for a culinary experience with different specials from different countries every week. The Canteen received the ‘NSW Healthy Canteen Award”, a gold star for the canteen queens!

NRL came to our school for a super clinic hosted by Adam who conducted a fee skills clinic for all students. Skills were developed with hand, eye and foot coordination games and much fun was had. We may have some budding NRL stars amongst us!

With restrictions finally eased we enjoyed our first assembly with parents. The children’s faces shone with excitement as they performed a beautiful welcome song written by our fantastic and very talented Principal Ann Mills and accompanied on the piano by the wonderful Mrs Hatfield.

And finally, P&C would like to say a huge thank you to David from IGA Galston for the generous donation of over $500 from the IGA community chest, to go towards us purchasing well-needed resources.

We would also like to thank Bendigo Bank for their donation of funds to purchase an AED for our school, how lucky we are to have such a kind and caring community bank.

And so the end of term 1 wraps up and we look towards Term 2 for more exciting learning and fun for all at Middle Dural Public School.
