Nati Roses to Turn Farm Into Memorial Garden in Sydney

In a city grappling with a housing crisis, Sydney is facing a less-discussed but equally pressing challenge: a shortage of space for the final resting places of its residents. To address this, a proposal has been lodged to transform part of Middle Dural into a tranquil new Memorial Garden.

The iconic Nati Roses family and business has enlisted The Purple Goldfish Pty Ltd (Hills Memorial Estate) to submit a development application to the Hills Shire Council, proposing that their 20-acre property at 788–790 Old Northern Road be converted into a landscaped memorial space. The vision is for park-like grounds, rich with greenery, trees, and flowers, offering a peaceful setting for loved ones’ interment while maintaining the area’s natural beauty.

Unlike traditional cemeteries, the Memorial Garden would feature discreet plaques set among lawns rather than imposing headstones or vaults. The development application also includes plans for a chapel and function centre at the southern end of the property, though notably, there will be no crematorium.

Nati Roses will maintain a presence on the site, introducing a new “Rose Pavilion” shop outlet while continuing rose cultivation on a reduced scale. The proposed use aligns with the Hills Shire Council’s RU6 Transitional zoning, and full plans and specifications are accessible via the council’s website under Application No. 499/2026/HC.

The proposal represents a creative approach to Sydney’s growing memorial space shortage, blending functionality with the aesthetics of a serene public park.
