Ground has been broken! This morning, shovels hit the ground on stage 2 of the Mark Taylor Oval upgrade — a state of the art $3.5 million indoor cricket centre.
The first of its kind in the region, the indoor centre will be used for all-weather training and specialist coaching. This is the second stage of a major upgrade of the oval following a $9 million commitment from the NSW government for Hornsby Shire Council and the Northern District Cricket Club to partner in upgrading sporting facilities at Waitara Park.
Since the project began, Hornsby Shire Council has been putting runs on the score board with construction milestones including:
- Irrigation and drainage
- Laying of topsoil
- Installation of fencing
- Pouring of concrete slabs for synthetic turf
- New oval gates
- Preparation works for the new oval driveway
“The council has been working hard on the ground improvements to the oval which, despite the challenges and delays due to the record levels of rain, are well underway,” said Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock. “Council thank the Waitara community for their patience as we know the oval plays such an important role.”
